Back to School: Photo Ideas and Checklist

Blog

As school is quickly approaching and summer is fading quickly we can all get anxious about heading back to school.  I wanted to create a fun back to school series for all the mamas on a mission to create a smooth transition back into the school year. This series will include tips and tools that will help you get organized and prepared for the upcoming school year.

First up are photo tips and ideas for Back to School! I always find myself in a hurry on the first day of school to snap a quick picture and then rush out the door. This year I wanted to prepare myself and help all of you do the same! I created a checklist and some ideas to help you prepare for the first day of school photos with your kids! I hope you love all of my tips!

Preparing for the first day of school photos

1. A week before print out my free printable photo checklist and photo ideas.

2. For the next week head over to Pinterest to browse and follow my first day of school photo board for some cute back to school pictures ideas. I love getting inspiration from Pinterest. When you are ready, start filling out my free printable checklist and jot down a few of your favorite ideas you found and must have photos.

3. About 3-5 days before print out any printables, banners or any other props you will be using for your pictures.

4. The night before, make sure your camera or phone is charged and you have enough storage available to take photos.

The First Day of School Photo Tips

 1. Prepare your kids for the photos. Let them know there will be lots of pictures taken that day. Some kids dread getting their picture taken and they probably have some nervous feelings on the first day so tension could set in.  The last thing you need is an argument before school.

2. Make sure you take your photos where there is good lighting. Do not take photos in direct sunlight.  Make sure your kids are not facing the sun, you don’t want squinty eyes in your pictures.

3. Candid photos are so much fun too. Try to take some photos getting their shoes on or walking into school. Candid photos are just as memorable if not more than posed pictures.

4. Moms and Dads, don’t forget to get in a picture too! I don’t want to regret not getting in a photo just because I didn’t feel like I look 100%. Take a few extra minutes to make yourself feel presentable in a picture. You don’t have to post this picture on social media.  It will be a keepsake for you! You will be so glad you did!
