Summer is in full swing! I wanted to create a little motivation for my children to keep them reading all summer long. It is not always easy to keep them motivated. I am excited to show you what I created and I really hope it can help all of you!
BOOKMARK
This free printable is so much more than a bookmark. It is is a goal-setting tool and motivation for your kids.
Let me show you!
What you will need are the FREE PRINTABLES, ribbon and a one-hole punch.
- Print out the front side of the bookmark. ( I printed mine for a 5X7 size)
- Next, put the same paper you just printed back in the printer to print on the backside of the bookmark
- Cut the bookmark out and hole punch the top of the bookmark for the ribbon
- Cut a small piece of ribbon, string through the hole and tie a knot
Setting Goals!
On the back of the bookmark decide with your child a reading goal. This can be minutes read, pages read, or anything you think is best for your child. Next, talk to your child about a reward that would be fun to receive if they reach their goal. Make sure to make them part of the goal-setting conversation. This way they can feel ownership and pride when they reach their goal!
On the front of the bookmark, there are 10 suns. Every day your child reads the goal they set, they can hole punch 1 sun. Once they have 10 suns punched out, they have earned their reward!
SUMMER READING LOG
Next up is a reading log. This reading log will help you and your child stay organized with what books they are reading. It has a place for the date, the title of the book and pages or minutes read.
I am always looking for ways to help moms like you! I know if I struggle as a mom keeping my kids motivated to read in the summer, there may be other moms that struggle too. I would love to hear from you if you plan on using these free printables. Also, let me know how they worked out for your family!
This such a fun idea Laura! That bookmark idea is brilliant and yellow just makes everything happy! Of course I am partial to “sunshine” : ))
Thank you Christina so much! This means a lot!! XO
