DIY Bookmarks

Blog

Today’s creative idea is making homemade bookmarks. My kids have been doing their summer reading like champs. Do they always want to read? No way! Do they do it anyway? YES!  As a mom and a teacher, it’s just something I feel they need to keep up with all summer long.

We decided to make some homemade bookmarks! I am so excited to share with you how we did it!

They are so simple to make and you don’t need anything fancy to make them.

We picked up some pretty 12×12 paper at Michaels that was thicker than normal printer paper. Make sure it is thick because you have to glue the inside.

Next, we measured 7 inches by 4 inches and cut the bookmark using my paper trimmer. You can always use a ruler and scissors if you don’t have a paper trimmer.

Fold the paper in half the long way. Crease the edge really well.

Then we took some glue and put a thin layer on each side of the paper.

Next, fold the paper over where you made the crease the last time and line it up with the other side and press down.

Then take a one-hole punch and punch out one hole at the top.

We then took these cute tassels we found at JOANN Fabrics on clearance and tied them through the hole using a small string to attach.

You can use anything as your tassel for the top of bookmarks. I tied ribbon on another set of bookmarks and they turned out so cute! Check out those bookmarks HERE!

I do love the way these big tassels look at the end of the bookmark!

These are so quick and fun to make! Just pick any pretty paper you like and you can create a fun bookmark. You could also use plain white paper and design your own!
