Read Across America – Fun ways to celebrate!

Blog

Read Across America is this Friday! Read Across America is a reading awareness program that is celebrated every year on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. It is a fun way to celebrate reading and the importance of reading.

I am sure if you have school-age children at home they will be celebrating Read Across America at school on March 2nd! This week I am sharing a fun way you can show your kids how important you think reading is too.

Celebrating this day at home is a great way to build that connection at home and in school!   They will think it’s pretty neat that you want to celebrate this day too!

I have created a few fun ideas to inspire you to celebrate this week! I hope you can use some of these fun and easy ideas with your family! I will have a link to all the free printables I included at the end of this post too.

Fun Ways to Celebrate Read Across America!

I found some fun Dr. Seuss plates, napkins, and cups at Party City. I only am going to use a few plates so I will save the rest of the plates and reusable cups for next year. These would be fun to use for breakfast that morning.

Set out some cute Dr. Seuss hats on the table.  These hats can be found at Oriental Trading or Amazon. Remember, you can reuse these items I am suggesting every Read Across America Day for years to come.

I am sure you all have some Dr. Seuss books on your kid’s bookshelf. Round up some of your favorite Dr. Seuss books to set out and display on the kitchen table for a cute centerpiece that day.

Placemats

I made some fun placemats that can be printed on a long sheet of 8.5X14 paper. This size is great for placemats because it is a bit longer. If you don’t have that size paper it can be printed on a smaller size paper too. This placemat has a maze, conversation starters, and a lot of pictures to color. Don’t forget to set out some crayons for them to use too.

Snack Idea

For a fun snack idea, I made these strawberry and banana skewers to resemble the Cat in the Hat’s hat.  Just cut up strawberries and slice up bananas and put them on a popsicle stick or whatever you have. The kids may have fun putting these together too!

Here is another free printable for you to use if you have a little extra time.  This 8X10 print is a great quote from Dr. Seuss. Place it in a frame and set it on the table with the books.

Giving Back

A great idea for those who want to give back to their children’s classroom is donating a book you purchased. It is a fun gift that the entire class can enjoy!

If you don’t know what book to donate, you could give a bookstore gift card. The teacher can then purchase what she wants for the classroom library.  Use my free printable Dr. Seuss gift card holder to give this gift card. I love using these gift card holders because they are easy to print and gives a perfect presentation to a gift card.
