Communion Party

Blog

On May 6th, my daughter received her First Holy Communion.  It was such an amazing day with our family and of course her school family.  I am excited to show you some of the special details of the day!

I thought it would be fun to show you how I put my parties together.  I like to create an inspiration board full of ideas, colors, and themes.

Creating a Pinterest board or inspiration board is so easy and you may even pin things that are not even related to the event.  A great tip is to search for items that are not the exact theme of your party.   For example, I searched mint green weddings and found inspiration from the bride’s bouquet.

The inspiration board below has a few things I pinned that led me to create my daughter’s communion party.

The color scheme for the party was mint green, pink and white.  My daughter’s favorite color is mint green so I was so excited to change up the colors for a communion party instead of the traditional pink.

The invitations were so beautiful!   Kori Clark, who is an amazing watercolorist and illustrator, created a custom design for her invitation.

I am still so in love with it!  Check out Kori’s website here, she was so sweet and did an amazing job!

The centerpieces were probably my favorite part of the decorations.  I used mason jars I already had and painted them with white chalk paint from Lowes.   I think they turned out fantastic.   My daughter had so much fun painting the jars with me.

I ordered the flowers from Costco and made the arrangements myself.  The mint-colored greenery you see in the flowers are actually fake!  I went to Hobby Lobby and found mint green stems for 40% off!    I was so excited they were the exact mint green color I wanted to add to the centerpieces.

The monogram flower toppers were such a special touch to the centerpieces.  Aren’t they adorable?

My online friend Christine from Two Chihuahuas made these amazing monogram toppers.  I loved using these toppers with my floral arrangements!  Check out her Etsy shop for the cutest cake toppers!

The dessert table was so much fun to put together.  I wanted to make all my own desserts for the table.  This was a big task but I truly love to bake.  I usually buy a big cake for my parties but really wanted to make this dessert table all my own.

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I attempted to bake a 4 layer cake for the table, but…… this didn’t end so well.  The dessert table ended up not needing the cake but now it is my mission to master the layered cake!

The dessert table consisted of mini lemon cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes, sugar cookies with buttercream frosting and royal icing and rice krispy treats.  I used a variety of colored cake stands for the table to place the desserts on.

I always want to make sure the kids are taken care of and entertained at my parties.   So I made sure to have tons of crafts, coloring, bead necklaces, card games, and music to keep them having fun.  I just went to Michael’s Craft store and picked up a ton of fun activities.   The room also had a dance floor so my sister in law provided some music for the kids.  They loved it!

This is the blessing tree which is such a sweet addition to any communion or baptism.  Each guest writes a small note, memory,  or quote to the guest of honor as a keepsake for your child.   I printed out a poem about the meaning of the blessing tree and framed it.

I just loved reading all the nice notes that were written to my daughter.  She loved reading them too.  It is something she can someday come back to and read when she is older.

The party favors were chocolates placed in these adorable white gable boxes.  I added ribbon and a circle cut floral thank you to each box.

It really was a blessed day and it meant so much to celebrate with family and friends.  Below are the thank you cards I designed and had printed at Shutterfly.   I love the option to upload your own design.   I had my daughter write a quick thank you to everyone on the back of each.

I hoped you enjoyed seeing some details from my daughter’s communion and I would LOVE to hear what you think below!
