I love creating new ideas for all of you, ideas that can help you as a mom. I know homework can be a daunting task to tackle after school.  To relieve the stress of homework this year why not make it a GOAL to set up a homework station in your home.  A homework station is a designated place for the kids to get their homework done. A place away from electronics that is well stocked with everything your child needs to get their work done.  I am making this a goal for me and my kids this year. The feeling of being prepared for a new school year will set the tone for you and your family!

Get set for Success, go beyond the basics.

Let me help you do this!  Here are some tips I have for you to create a homework station + set goals with your kids!

First, find a great place in your home to set up a small homework station.  Make sure it is a place that is well lit and away from electronics.  This could be in a bedroom, maybe put a small desk in there.  A small table set up in the kitchen.  A small table set up in your own office.  Here’s a look at my homework station I set up!  I set it up in my home office.  It is a well-lit area, lots of room, well supplied and away from the electronics.

  • It’s very important that your homework station is well stocked with supplies. I found a cute tray and filled it with some must-have supplies.  Keeping your homework station organized and well stocked is key! Here are a few things I picked up at Walmart for my homework station.

  • Next, I picked up, Post-it® Super Sticky Notes, Assorted Sizes, Rio de Janiero Collection, 4 Pads per pk, 45 Sheets/Pad. I love that it comes as a 2 pack! I also found Post-it® Page Markers, Neon Colors, 1/2”x2”, 50/Pad, 4Pads/Pack. I just love all the bright colors.  I use these page markers daily as a teacher too. You could use these markers at home to color code papers that need signed, brought back to school or to save for later.

Next, have them write down a goal they want to achieve this school year.  They can set a goal for the school year or they can set a new one for each new quarter.  My kid’s goals are focusing on homework.  My daughter’s goal is to finish her homework before basketball practice.  My son’s goal is to finish homework before dinner.  I love these goals because then homework can get done as soon as we get home from school! Sounds great to me!

Setting goals for yourself and having your kids set goals for themselves is so refreshing.  As a teacher, this is something I do in my own classroom!  Just make sure these goals are attainable so they can succeed!  Setting goals really motivate kids to work hard.  What is even better is when they achieve that goal, they feel the joy of achievement!
