As school is quickly approaching and summer is fading quickly we can all get anxious about heading back to school. I wanted to create a fun back to school series for all the mamas on a mission to create a smooth transition back into the school year. This series will include tips and tools that will help you get organized and prepared for the upcoming school year.
Next up, are 5 tips for a successful first day of school! These tips are simple yet so important for creating a stress-free start to the year.
1. Make sure that all backpacks are packed with all the school supplies. Have their clothes and socks all picked out and ready to go not just for the first day of school, but for the entire first week.
Some schools have an open house before school starts and that is always a good time to bring classroom school supplies to the teacher. This really helps on the first day of school so your child does not have to bring tons of bags into school with them.
2. Make sure you have your photo ideas ready for the next day of school. You don’t want to be rushing around trying to figure out the how and where to take a cute photo. I like to browse Pinterest for some fun first day of school ideas. Another idea is to create a tradition that you will continue year after year. Maybe a free printable with the child’s name, date, and grade. Check out my blog photo tips for the first day of school.
3. I like to plan a relaxing family night before school starts. As a houseful of educators and students, we tend to be a little bit more anxious for the first day of school. A nice dinner that we all love, play a board game or watch a favorite show together as a family.
4. I like to find a back to school book to read to my kids before bed. These books are fun to pull out once a year from our bookshelf. You could also go and buy a new book that you haven’t read yet. There are so many amazing back to school books that are quick reads and fun for kids. Make sure to have this book purchased ahead of time or go dig through the books you already own.
One of my favorite books!
5. My last tip is to have an encouraging talk or prayer with your kids before bed. This is nice to do one on one with your child right before bed. Talk about all the positive things the new school year will bring. Let them talk to you about any worries they may have so you can ease their minds and then they can get a good nights sleep. I just love this little prayer from Courtney DeFeo. It is just perfect!
